ABOUT ME
I'm a designer of brands, experiences, products and services, currently based in Sandton, South Africa. I have an academic background in the arts, but am currently practising user experience design — primarily for the web, with a vested interest in design leadership.
I also dabble in music production and game design, read and write a lot, and obsessively collect a lot of plants — with the shameless goal of transforming my home into an indoor jungle.
I'm fascinated by the implications of technology on the human condition, and am of the conviction that design is the language where these stories converge.

ABOUT MY WORK
My approach to user-centred design positions people at the heart of experience. My work thus spans the full gamut of user-centred design services, from the discovery and analysis of business problems to the implementation and delivery of design solutions.

I have consulted for organisations of various structures, cultures and industries. So regardless of whether you're a global corporation needing to transform design thinking into a core business value, or a fresh startup just wanting to get inspired, drop me a line.

DESIGN STRATEGY
Though we are ocular-centric, design is more than a pretty picture. Beneath the surface an interface, there exists an ecosystem of information that must be architected for purpose.
By defining measurable objectives, as well as a tactical roadmap of how to achieve them, design strategy uses established design processes and methodologies to ensure designs don't end up as personal decorative preferences, but rather as considered sources of measurable business value, in all layers of design.
USER INTERFACE & INTERACTION DESIGN
People have been interacting with information in a plethora of formats ages before the invention of the web. Google's Material Design is only one kind of attempt at articulating the influence of physical material on our experience of the web's largely uncharted territory.
It's easy to decorate a web page, but an informed design that actively references design psychology can be the stark difference between a gimmicky trend and a pioneering web standard.
With emerging approaches to adaptation theory, responsive design, atomic design systems and shearing layers - in conjunction with well-established design heuristics for the web (navigation, layout, colour, typography and movement), interaction design is important in providing function through beauty, and usability.
Unlike the layman perception that art is simply an artefact of personal expression, I am of the belief that whether in a gallery or public space, art creates a lens for understanding imagery as an ideological tool.

Though my subject matter as an artist is always developing, my interest remains engaged with how digital technology distorts the once-clear cartesian boundaries between virtual and physical spaces. A distortion and disembodiment of body and space give way to a kind of dark surrealism.

As a means of representing the relationship between the traditional and the new, I blend traditional pencil and charcoal drawings with new media - digital painting, animation, and code.
DESIGN THINKING & PUBLIC SPEAKING
My services also include design education and motivational speaking. I give lectures, talks, and presentations. I also facilitate workshops, as well as offer mentorships to help shape design careers.
So whether your organisation is in need of some design guidance, inspiration, or even some hard, practical design skills, get in touch.
I would love to help out.
